Overview
TwinCurrent built My Family Recipes, a family recipe app for iOS and Android, live on the App Store and Google Play. It turns scattered recipe cards, cookbook pages, and screenshots into a shared family collection: grandparents add the recipes they have cooked for decades; grandchildren cook from them on their phones.
Backed by a Rust/Axum API, with AI-powered scanning and offline access as the headline features.
The Challenge
Family recipes live on paper cards, in old cookbooks, and in screenshots that get lost
Typing recipes in by hand is tedious enough that most never get digitised
Families want to share a collection privately, not post it to a public site
Cooks need their recipes in the kitchen even with no internet connection
Scaling a recipe up or down by hand is error-prone
System Architecture
- React Native appNative iOS and Android client
- Rust / Axum APIBackend and sync
- PostgreSQLRecipes and family groups
- AI vision + offlineScanning plus on-device cache
A single React Native codebase ships native apps to both stores, talking to a Rust/Axum API over PostgreSQL. Recipes sync down to the device so the full collection is available in the kitchen with or without a connection.
AI vision handles digitisation: point the camera at a handwritten card, a cookbook page, or a URL, and the app extracts ingredients, steps, and metadata automatically, removing the manual typing that stops most people from preserving family recipes.
The Solution
AI recipe scanning
Point your phone at a handwritten card, a cookbook page, or a URL. The AI extracts ingredients, instructions, and metadata automatically.
Family sharing groups
Create private family groups where members contribute, browse, and cook from a shared collection.
Offline access
Recipes sync to your device. No internet in the kitchen is no problem, full access with or without a connection.
Ingredient scaling
Cooking for 2 instead of 8? Scale any recipe up or down and the app recalculates every ingredient amount.
Recipe organisation
Tag, categorise, and search your collection by cuisine, meal type, dietary needs, or who contributed it.
iOS & Android
Native app experience on both platforms, available on the App Store and Google Play.
Integration Highlights
AI vision scanning
